FXCM’s commissions and fees are a little above the industry average overall, especially on its standard accounts, where EUR/USD spreads averaged 0.78 pips in its EU, U.K., and Australia offerings in May 2024, and 1.38 pips for its St. Vincent and the Grenadines entity. Its commission-based accounts are cheaper on paper, with average spreads of 0.28 pips before commissions, but the all-in cost is still higher once fees are added. FXCM does offer active trader rebates that can lower costs for high-volume clients, though the best discounts are not available in every region and pricing can still widen during volatile periods. FXCM is rated 4.5 out of 5 stars and ranks #17 out of 36 brokers for Commissions and Fees.
FP Markets is the stronger pick for cost-conscious traders, especially on its Raw ECN account, which is known for tight pricing. In October 2023, its Raw account averaged just 0.1 pips on EUR/USD, or about 0.8 pips all-in after commission, while its Standard account was more expensive at about 1.1 pips. FP Markets also charges a flat $6 round-turn per standard lot on cTrader’s Raw account, making its pricing easy to understand. It earned 4.5 out of 5 stars and is ranked #11 out of 36 brokers for Commissions and Fees.
In simple terms, both brokers score well, but FP Markets has the edge for lower trading costs and stronger value, especially for active forex traders. FXCM can still be a reasonable choice, particularly if you qualify for its rebate program, but its base pricing is generally less competitive. If keeping fees down is a top priority, FP Markets is the better fit overall.

FXCM and FP Markets both let traders access forex as CFDs or spot contracts, and both also support copy trading and cryptocurrency CFDs. Neither broker offers direct share dealing on U.S. or international stock exchanges, and neither allows clients to buy actual, delivered cryptocurrency. In other words, if you want to trade forex or crypto through contracts for difference, both platforms cover those basics.
Where they differ most is in the size of their market selection. FXCM offers 440 tradeable symbols and 46 forex pairs, while FP Markets gives traders a much wider choice with 10,000 tradeable symbols and 71 forex pairs. FXCM and FP Markets both give traders a wide mix of platform choices, including free demo accounts, web-based platforms, Windows desktop downloads, copy trading, and MetaTrader 4. Each broker also offers a proprietary trading platform and lets users place trades directly from charts, which can make order entry faster and easier for active traders. In simple terms, both brokers cover the main platform needs most traders look for.

Each broker gives mobile users the core tools needed to track markets and manage trades from a phone or tablet. When it comes to market research, both FXCM and FP Markets give traders a solid set of tools. Each broker offers daily market commentary, forex news from major outlets like Bloomberg, Reuters, or Dow Jones, a Trading Central tool, sentiment data showing long and short positions, and an economic calendar for tracking global events. In this area, both platforms cover the basics well and should meet the needs of many everyday traders.
That said, FXCM has a slight edge overall. It adds TipRanks market research, while FP Markets includes Autochartist instead. FXCM and FP Markets both give beginners plenty of ways to learn, with each offering forex and CFD education that includes at least 10 learning pieces, monthly client webinars, and 10 or more beginner videos. Both brokers also provide advanced videos for more experienced traders, so new users can start with the basics and keep learning as their skills grow.
That said, FXCM has the edge for education overall.
