Fees

On commissions and fees, Vantage scores 4.5/5 stars (ranked #20 of 63), edging out Charles Schwab at 4/5 stars (ranked #26 of 63). Schwab keeps pricing simple: there’s no commission on forex—your cost is the spread—while Vantage offers a spread-only account plus ECN-style accounts that charge a small commission in exchange for tighter spreads. If you’re chasing the lowest all-in cost, Vantage’s ECN options can come out cheaper; if you prefer straightforward pricing, Schwab is easy to grasp.

Charles Schwab has no minimum deposit for its main brokerage accounts. Forex trading runs through thinkorswim via the Schwab One account, with all trades settled in U.S. dollars. The smallest trade size is 10,000 units, which at 20:1 leverage means about $500 in required margin. Schwab doesn’t charge forex commissions; the average EUR/USD spread was 1.35 pips in October 2024, on the higher side of the market. If you want to place trades in a foreign currency with Schwab One you must call in; the Schwab Global account lets you trade in 12 local markets, with currency conversion fees of roughly 0.2%–1% depending on balance. Overnight financing estimates are available in-platform.

Vantage pricing depends on account type and entity. The Standard STP account is spread-only with typical EUR/USD spreads around 1.30 pips (March 2023). The RAW ECN account averaged 0.15 pips plus a $3 commission per side ($6 round turn), for about 0.75 pips all-in, while the PRO ECN cuts the commission to $2 per side ($4 round turn). The PRO ECN may require wholesale-client status (AU) or at least $10,000 (Cayman). Vantage also offers an active trader program with rebates of $2–$8 per standard lot based on balance and monthly volume, but it applies only to the Standard account, which has the widest spreads of the three.
