CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Between 51% and 89% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

On regulation, both hold two Tier-1 licenses, the most reputable category for investor protection. XTB also holds two Tier-2 licenses, while Exness holds three. Fees

XTB offers simple pricing for most retail traders, with a spread-only Standard account and a commission-based Professional account that is mainly limited to eligible clients in the U.K. and Europe. In our review, XTB earned 4.5 out of 5 stars for commissions and fees and ranked #13 out of 36 brokers. Its average EUR/USD spread was 1 pip based on Q4 2023 data, which is about average for the industry, though not among the cheapest. For smaller trade sizes, the Standard account is usually the better deal, while active traders may qualify for XTB’s Lower Spread Group, which can rebate 5% to 30% of spreads depending on trading volume.

Exness gives traders more account choices, including two standard accounts and three professional accounts, plus two social copy trading options. Its costs depend heavily on which account you choose: the commission-free accounts usually have wider spreads, while the Zero Spread and Raw accounts charge commissions but offer tighter pricing. Exness earned 4 out of 5 stars for commissions and fees and ranked #31 out of 36 brokers. For traders who want very low spreads and do not mind paying commission, the Raw or Zero Spread accounts may appeal, but the overall pricing setup is more complex than XTB’s.

In simple terms, XTB is the better pick if you want straightforward fees and stronger overall value in the commissions-and-fees category, while Exness may suit traders looking for more account variety and commission-based pricing. XTB scores higher on both rating and ranking, making it the stronger choice overall for cost-conscious traders who want an easier-to-understand fee structure.
