Fees

Here’s how Trading 212 and Questrade stack up on commissions and fees. Trading 212 earns 4 out of 5 stars and ranks #27 out of 63 brokers for Commissions and Fees at ForexBrokers.com, while Questrade earns 3.5 out of 5 stars and ranks #33 out of 63. Trading 212 offers two accounts (Invest and CFD) with low minimum deposits (1 euro for Invest, 10 euros for CFD), but this comparison focuses on CFD and forex pricing. Questrade Global is a spread-only model for forex and also offers CFDs.

Trading 212 advertises zero-commission trading on CFDs and forex, but you still pay the spread. It now publishes average spread data; in April 2025 the average spread on EUR/USD was 2.7 pips—above the industry average—so your all-in trading cost can be higher than many leading brokers even without a separate commission.

Questrade builds trading costs into the spread. While it says spreads can be as low as 0.8 pips in normal conditions, average spreads on major pairs tend to run about 2.1–2.5 pips, which can be tighter than Trading 212’s recent 2.7-pip EUR/USD average. For CFDs, however, Questrade adds a $9.95 USD trading fee per unit on top of the spread when you open and close a position (about $19.95 round-trip). For example, buying and later selling one Tesla CFD unit would incur a small spread (around $0.05) plus $19.95 in fees—about 5.813%—and roughly 0.65% more for one month of overnight financing, meaning you’d need a return of over 6% just to break even. In short: Questrade’s forex spreads can be lower, but its per-unit CFD fees add up quickly; Trading 212 skips commissions but generally has wider spreads.

Trading platforms and tools

Trading 212 vs Questrade: both brokers check key boxes for everyday investors. Each offers paper trading with a free virtual demo account and a web-based trading platform, plus the ability to place trades directly from charts. Neither supports MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5, and neither offers copy trading. Platform availability is a key divider: Questrade provides a proprietary, in-house platform and a downloadable Windows desktop platform in addition to its web platform, while Trading 212 does not offer a proprietary or Windows desktop platform and is accessed in the browser.

When it comes to performance in independent reviews of trading platforms and tools, both Trading 212 and Questrade earn 4 out of 5 stars. However, Trading 212 ranks higher overall in this category, placing 19th out of 63 brokers compared with Questrade’s 28th. If you want a Windows desktop experience and an in-house platform, Questrade is the better fit. If you prefer simple web trading and value a stronger category ranking, Trading 212 is a solid pick—especially with its easy-access demo account.

In ForexBrokers.com’s Mobile Trading Apps ratings, Trading 212 earns 4 out of 5 stars and ranks 17th out of 63 brokers; Questrade earns 3.5 stars and ranks 28th. If you want more built-in indicators and a slightly higher-rated app, Trading 212 has the edge; if you’re already with Questrade, its app still covers the essentials for on-the-go trading.

Market research

Comparing Trading 212 and Questrade for market research, both earn 3.5 out of 5 stars and neither provides daily market commentary. Trading 212 stands out with forex news from top-tier sources (e.g., Bloomberg, Reuters, Dow Jones), a sentiment tool showing long vs. short positioning, and an in-platform economic calendar. However, it lacks Autochartist, Trading Central, TipRanks, and Acuity Trading tools. Questrade is the opposite: it includes Autochartist, Trading Central, and TipRanks for chart patterns, trade ideas, and analyst ratings, but does not offer top-tier forex news, a sentiment tool, an economic calendar, or Acuity.

In short, news-driven traders who want a calendar and sentiment data may prefer Trading 212, while those who value automated pattern discovery, third‑party technical insights, and analyst scorecards may lean toward Questrade.

Beginners and education

For beginner traders comparing education, Trading 212 stands out for video content: it offers at least 10 beginner videos and at least 10 advanced videos that walk through trading topics step by step. Questrade does not meet that 10-video threshold for either beginner or advanced material. Neither broker runs monthly client webinars. It’s also not clearly stated whether either broker provides a catalog of 10 or more forex/CFD-specific lessons or videos.

When it comes to third-party evaluations, both Trading 212 and Questrade earn 3.5 out of 5 stars for Education. However, Trading 212 ranks higher at #20 out of 63 brokers in the ForexBrokers.com Education category, while Questrade sits at #28. If you value a larger video library geared to new traders, Trading 212 may be the better fit; if you don’t need many videos, Questrade could still work while offering a similar overall education rating.
